I have just won an appeal against an unfair disciplinary outcome. Unison rep James Hawker supported me online during hearing and David Marsden supported me in person at my appeal. The care company i work for have now accepted proceedure was not correctly followed, the investigation was aggresive, the disciplinary officer was inappropriate due to conflict of interest, that training needs to be updated, that i receive a debrief for raising a safeguarding report AND my discipline be reduced to a verbal warning. I was also assured that the 2 managers behaviour will be investigated.

Because I have a disability I always feel it is important to stand up for my rights so that others who, for various reasons, are unable to fight will not be treated badly in the future.

Thank you Unison for your support.

I am now hoping to become a Unison rep for my colleagues.

Firstly i would like to start off by saying joining unison has been one of the best decisions i have made. I was initially recommended them by my sister who really sang their praises, she explained to me that even in the most hardest situations her case worker was always there at hand when she felt cornered by her employer. They have a habit of doing this ! I am currently going through a difficult patch at work with my manager and it has affected my mental health. I always leave messages at the branch and Rebecca or Sandie usually get back to me with a response. I would say the branch support officers are very responsive to me so thank you for that, especially when I am distressed it is really reassuring to know you offer the emotional support. The branch support officers always get a case worker to me. The case workers are amazing and they help with one another's work loads if they are away on leave so that to me is team work at its finest. So far I have been acquainted with Sara and James. I have strong faith that unison will help me resolve my issue at work. Currently James has been supporting me with advise and guidance so thanks for that James. I aim to learn rebuttals/counter arguments off you whilst you support me. Thanks again guys your really are fab ! "

"I am emailing back to say thank you for the support from the support worker in July. Following her advice and guidance, I followed up with CEO and my line manger at my workplace regarding my employment and promotion"

Thank you so much for your help and support, I really was at my wits end and didn't know where to turn. I know Unison can't offer me any legal help but since talking to you (James) and Rebecca I felt a bit less alone and I've spoken to an employment lawyer regarding help if it goes to an employment tribunal.

I honestly can't overstate the impact you have both had. Just knowing that someone else agrees that I've been treated unfairly and is willing to say so has made a huge difference. I really was at my wits end and the town council seemed to be able to do whatever they wanted indiscriminately.

I'll happily tell anyone and everyone how great you've both been!

I received a fantastic sevice from David during the recent issues I have had at work and thought that getting more involved something I could definitely do. I was able to sound of to David with an impartial ear which became of great value.

I'm very grateful for the phone calls and service you (Rebecca) have provided.  You have been “amazing” and helped reassure me when I was feeling very vulnerable.

Sarah has been my rock over the last two years fighting discrimination firstly for my hours and currently with pay.  My fight for my job this time last year was unbelievable stressful and led to me taking time off work with stress whilst fighting my corner.  Without Sarah I would of given up, she has taught me a lot about my rights as a person working with disabilities and how the employment law system works.  She always responds promptly to my emails and messages and always finds a solution to ease my stress and put my mind at ease.  I have every faith in her judgment and that to me is priceless.  Sarah is a huge asset to unison and deserves the recognition.

My story is unfortunately more common than most might think. As an experienced manager for a charity, I was subjected to bullying and harassment by my boss, the CEO for over a year. I also witnessed other members of staff being bullied out resulting in them resigning.

No one has the right to make people feel depressed, question their ability to do their job well and to make their mental health deteriorate to the point that they can’t sleep, eat and are frightened to come into work.

From the get go, they listened and validated that this was bullying and harassment in the workplace and it would be taken seriously. They supported me through all the trials and tribulations of the grievance process. They believed in me and gave me the strength and confidence to win my case.

I’m now back where I wanted to be. Doing the job I love in a non toxic environment. Don’t ever give up on what’s right. The support of Unison has been invaluable and for that I’m truly grateful.
