UNISON 2022 NATIONAL DISABLED MEMBERS CONFERENCE.

First, I must greet and thank the west midland community team. For their hard work and support to me and my family preparing for the conference in Brighton.

My traveling was wonderful too and from Brighton, My Accommodation was good apart from the heather was not working, that has nothing to do with the

secretary of the branch this was 100% the owner of the apartment, she only disclosed that information about 5 pm on Friday 29th of October 2022. Therefore, the conference organizer has supported us. Wait for an electrical heater.

My experience at Unison 2022 national disabled members conference was amazing it has been my first disabled member conference and the experience and the people were great.

The conference encourages individuals to be open where they could ask any question if you are unsure of the topic of discussion.

This conference has enabled me to be more confident in public speaking and how to adjust myself and be assertive in what I’m speaking about.

The individual workshops were amazing and again enabled me to ask a question and have the opportunity to meet other disabled members and identify a different kind of disability and what are some of the barriers that come with it.

The Opportunity to meet the general secretary who was one of the guest speakers Christina McAnea. It was amazing for the passion that she showed in her speech was great.

Unison 2022 national disabled member conference allowed me also to meet the national disability members committee. It was amazing to the different types of motion and the discussion that took place regarding giving people a good balance of lifestyle within the workplace and in their home, I must say I’m a proud member of Unison. This conference has given me a lot of insight to return to my place of work to help challenge and change the way things are being done and the way employment approach issue.

I must say the conference has a big impact on changing my mentality around disability, my children attend the crash, and it has a big impact on my children my youngest who is four years old could not speak fluently, but after the conference my son was able to say a full sentence in English clear with an understanding of what he was talking about. I like the fact that while parents were at the conference their children were still being educated to the highest level. This was something I came back home with and was able to share with other Unison members who find it difficult to attend Unison meetings and also conferences.

That everyone can approach their branch secretary and the team with any concern or issue they may be facing barriers.

I must say I’m looking forward to the next national 2023 disabled members conference and most of all the woman's conference coming up.
